ABOUT US

BROOKLYN STRONG SINCE 1645: Brooklyn as we know it was formed in 1645 by Dutch settlers looking to escape persecution and make a better life for themselves by establishing new trading opportunities. It was named after the Dutch village of Breukelen.

Founded in 2012, Brooklyn Bean Roastery became a pioneer in making Keurig-compatible, single serve coffee cups in addition to our traditional ground coffee bags and was one of the first companies to go head to head with coffee pod giant, Keurig Green Mountain.

Brooklyn Bean distinguishes itself from the many coffee pod companies that have since come to market by forming relationships with small coffee farms, roasting and grinding our own beans in-house, and by offering an array of trendy flavors and roasts with bold, innovative packaging

We modeled our creative direction somewhat after the many craft beer companies that were successfully taking on the giants in that industry by making simply more appealing products. At the time, no one was doing this for coffee. All the brands on the shelf looked and felt so similar with a steaming mug and mountains in the background. We felt that there were enough customers like us that cared about aesthetics to support this new brand.

Most of us lived or had lived in Brooklyn and the company was originally based there so we took on “the worlds most famous borough” as our inspiration. Brooklyn has a naturally cool vibe. It’s a mixture of modern, urban, historic and ultra-trendy settings makes it one of the most unique places you can find.

We were looking to make a product line that captured the flavor of Brooklyn with packaging that was just flat-out cool and came up with the Brooklyn Bean Roastery line. Since then, we’ve had a bunch of iterations in our packaging to keep the brand fresh and evolving.

Brooklyn Bean Roastery’s lineup of coffees have names and design themes that capture the boroughs flair. Fuhgeddaboutit and Cyclone are extra-bold dark roasts, Express-O, an express train-themed espresso roast, and flavored coffees have names like Coney Island Caramel, Cinnamon Subway & Vanilla Skyline.

In short, Brooklyn Bean was started by a few guys from Brooklyn who really knew their beans. We grew up with an appreciation for quality, originality, and local pride, and we’ve based our company on those values. Like the borough of Brooklyn, our coffees are complex and diverse. We really hope you enjoy them!
